Tick, tock, tick, tock, panto time is fast approaching…

Get ready for the biggest all-star pantomime to date - Janice Honeyman’s Cinderella.

The most popular pantomime story of them all, CINDERELLA is brought magically to life from page to stage by legendary story-teller and mirth-maker Janice Honeyman in a high quality, top-drawer production packed with an abundance of comedy, stunning sets, beautiful costumes and, of course, the special moment when Cinderella is transformed from rags-to-riches and whisked off to the ball – with the help of a little dusting of Fairy Godmother magic! You can be sure of a spectacular show that will be packed full of traditional panto fun, great songs, hilarious comedy and dazzling dance.

Returning to South Africa’s most popular stage show of the year is South Africa’s most adored star of the pantomimes TOBIE CRONJÉ, in the hilarious role of Cinderella’s Ugly Sister, Flossie Flemerina.

And the producers have pulled off yet another coup in their annual surprise casting in having persuaded ISIDINGO’s superstar villain Barker Haines, actor ROBERT WHITEHEAD, to make his panto debut as the other Ugly Sister, Fanny Flatulina. One of this country’s most acclaimed and awarded theatre, film and television stars, Robert Whitehead proved that infamy is as much loved as fame when he won Favourite Actor in the recent YOU Spectacular Awards!

Popular young reality television stars CARMEN PRETORIUS and BONGI MTHOMBENI will be playing the lead romantic roles of Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Now musical theatre’s shining young star, Carmen Pretorius received her ‘big break’ at age 18 when she entered into the nationwide televised search for the much coveted starring role in the stage show HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and won, subsequently performing the role in South Africa, Taiwan and Indonesia. Carmen has since been in great demand for leading stage musical roles in shows such as FOOTLOOSE (at Joburg Theatre) and MAMMA MIA. She can currently be seen playing the role of Lucinda on KykNet’s BINNELANDERS.

Dynamic new star Bongi Mthombeni created a media buzz when he was invited to feature in Janice Honeyman’s 2011 pantomime on the same night that he was ‘voted off’ as an IDOLS 2010 Finalist. He has since worked with big SA music names including The Parlotones, Steve Hofmeyr, Loyiso Bala and Prime Circle.

Multi-award winning star of the stage SIBU RADEBE has been cast as Buttons, the loveable and loyal friend to Cinderella. Sibu has performed in many musicals in South Africa over the last few years, including Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, for which he received two Naledi awards and Janice Honeyman’s 2009 pantomime PINOCCHIO, for which Sibu won the Naledi Award for Best Performance.

Favourite Afrikaans ‘soap star’ ANNA-MART VAN DER MERWE will be guest-starring in the panto as the all-important Fairy Godmother. Much of Anna-Mart's immense popularity has arisen from her numerous leading roles in television. These include VELDSLAG, SONKRING 1 and 2, KONINGS, SOUL CITY, SECRET IN MY BOSOM and 7 DE LAAN. One of the most frequently featured cover faces on the magazines of South Africa, Anna-Mart makes her pantomime debut in CINDERELLA.

All of the other usual crazy roles in the panto will be performed this year by a truly sterling South African company of actors: Stephen Jubber as Dandini, Malcolm Terrey as Baron Hardup, Tammi Meyer as Lady JinJa, Jaco van Rensburg as Donkey Houtie, Charles Bouguenon, Zeena Edwards, Nurit Michele Graff, Reg Hart, Bruce J Little, Jodie Renouf, Claire Scheepers, Uber Seleme, Dionne Song, Lebo Toko, Marno van der Merwe and Ziyanda Yako.

“Joburg Theatre audiences have come to expect truly star casting - with a few surprises - in their annual festive season pantos and this year I think we’ve even surprised ourselves,” says Executive Producer and Joburg Theatre’s CEO, Bernard Jay. “We’re flattered and delighted that some of this country’s most popular celebrities have chosen to spend the last two months of their year with us, entertaining over 75,000 people in this grand old tradition.”

Returning alongside writer / director Janice Honeyman to the theatre’s creative family for CINDERELLA are Heidi Edeling (Musical Director), Jaco van Rensburg (Choreographer), and Graham McLusky (Lighting Designer). The show is again produced by Bernard Jay, Simon James and Claire Pacariz for Joburg Theatre with Timothy Le Roux serving as Resident Director.

CINDERELLA opens on The Mandela stage on October 26 and runs until December 30, 2011.
