The Sasol Community and Sancta 33rd Annual Community One-Act Festivals will be held from 24 June to 13 July in Secunda J. Stegmann Theatre.

The Sasol Community One-Act Festival for Govan Mbeki Municipal area ONLY will now run from 24-29 June 2013, and the Sancta Annual 33rd One-Act Festival will run the following two weeks in July straight after. They will be held as in the last three years at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre, Secunda , thanks to the sponsorship of Sasol Secunda and the Mpumalanga Government (Dept. Culture, Sport and Recreation)

The deadline for entries for BOTH FESTIVALS is 30 April to be in Sancta’s hands by that date. The entry fee of R200 per festival and R200 Sancta membership must be paid by that date to Sancta. (Banking details on our website or contact Noel McDonald). If you applied previously, please confirm with Sancta that you are available to perform in June and July. The best 3 plays from the Sasol Community Theatre Festival will have automatic entry into the Main Festival. Sasol will pay your membership fees of R200 for 2013 for the Sasol Community One-Act Festival ONLY!

The 33rd Sancta Festival is a national festival and we shall accept 9 entries from Mpumalanga overall and 6 from Gauteng, KZN, NW and CP, so places will be very limited.

We require a typed first 10 pages of your play, the characters, a short synopsis by 30 April as the plays will, as has been done in the last three years, be chosen on the “merits of the script getting to stage.”

Once the 15 plays are chosen, 2 mentoring courses will be given by our patroness and highly esteemed actress, teacher, director – Dorothy Anne Gould, her husband and other professional mentors in all provinces. There will also be a technical workshop on lights, sound, theatre etiquette about a month before and participants will be expected to buy badges to sell to prospective audiences, especially schools etc. Not all transport is going to be sponsored, so it is vital groups start marketing their plays NOW for both festivals to sell tickets to the audience to help raise transport monies and money for their groups’ expenses.

In addition, in 2012, Sancta travelled 4 200km giving courses to 7 main towns to about 500 people from about 40 smaller towns in the Gert Sibande Region sponsored by the Mpumalanga Govt (Dept. Culture, Sport and Recreation)

The Gert Sibande Region (Thobile and Sakhile) have found 7 prospective play writers who have sent their scripts to Sancta already and Sancta will run a writers and directors course for these plays at the Johannes Stegmann Theatre in Secunda on 20 April for these 7 groups only. The three groups that presented the best typed scripts and that perform them with merit on that date will also have free entry into the 33rd Sancta Festival. Both Sancta and these playwrights are very grateful to the Mpumalanga (Dept. CSR) for their sponsorship. This means there will be place for only 3 extra plays from Mpumalanga for the Main Festival.
