With four days of Festival to go, all remaining concerts for the 2013 Johannesburg International Mozart Festival (JIMF) are sold out. “We’ve had an unprecedented demand for tickets for all the concerts – the big ones sold out within 24 hours,” said Festival Director Richard Cock. The Festival, which this year embodied the theme “Se vuol ballare - If you would dance” has been an enormous success. Some of the highlights this year have included the Viennese pre-Concert, which had to be repeated due to popular demand; performances by visiting guests Sir Roger Norrington (conductor) and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, in collaboration with the South African National Youth Orchestra; the debut performance of a new composition by Composer-in-Residence Bongani Ndodana-Breen and the forthcoming choreographic explorations at the Wits Art Museum. This year, the Festival expanded to include 4 new venues - St Columba’s Church, The Fringe at Joburg Theatre, Wits Art Museum and King Kong in Troyeville, so far with very positive responses from audiences. “We have had fantastic audiences for this year’s Festival. I am thrilled that the dance theme and the various exciting events have gone down so well,” said Artistic Director Florian Uhlig. With a range of concerts from intimate recitals; to innovative sound and dance improvisation demonstrations; chamber and symphony concerts, school outreaches and even the popular Orchestra from Scratch; the Festival continues to expand on its mandate to invite people of all backgrounds and ages to join in and be united in the enjoyment and celebration of music. The Festival begins each year around 27 January, which was Mozart’s birthday. For more information on the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival (JIMF), see www.join-mozart-festival.org.
