Mission to empower music composers continuesJT Communication Solutions
In 2012, the Composers’ Association of South Africa (CASA) has successfully made great strides in advancing the course of music composers.
Through workshops, they are empowered with tools of knowledge that will help them run their businesses effectively and sustainably.
CASA believes that the 2 workshops already conducted in 2012 under the umbrella topic, “Earning Income From Composing Music”, which dealt with “Music Publishing” and “Dealing with Contracts”, are beginning to enlighten and inspire more music composers.
During the month of November 2012, CASA will also be visiting East London, hosted by the Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre at the University of Fort Hare.
The next workshop of the series will take place on Thursday 22 November 2012 at SAMRO House, with the focus on “Composing Music for Film, TV & Advertising”. This is an area that most composers don’t know much about and constantly want to know how it works. This workshop will help demystify the notion that the area of film, TV & advertising is limited only to a few composers. It will also empower composers to develop confidence and the ability to negotiate sound and beneficial agreements.
This workshop is FREE to all music composers, however you NEED to register and reserve your space by e-mailing your full name to email@example.com or sending a SMS to 076 026 4379.
Workshop topic: “Composing Music for Film, TV & Advertising”.
Date: Thursday 22 November 2012.

Background on CASA:
CASA was formed in 2002 by a group of concerned music composers after realizing that there was a lack of information flow amongst music composers and within the music industry in general.
Some of CASA’s objectives include:
- Offering information and general advice to music composers.
- Promoting knowledge and understanding towards fair and effective management of composers’ music rights.
- Promoting and protecting the rights of South African music composers
- Providing a forum for debating issues of interest to music composers
You may also visit www.composers.co.za to read more on CASA’s objectives as well as to join as a Member. CASA is led by the current executive committee consisting of Ron Brettell (Acting Chairperson), Colin Shapiro (Deputy Chair), Musa Manzini, Concord Nkabinde, JB Arthur, Cindy Alter, Keith Hutchinson and Fani Ntlama.
