Two of the country’s most celebrated classical artists will be featured at the final recital of the 2012 Nederburg Concert Series on October 28. Scintillating soprano, Zanne Stapelberg, and renowned pianist, François du Toit, will entertain guests with a versatile repertoire. Accompanied by Du Toit, Stapelberg will serenade the audience with sultry French chansons and fiery Spanish songs. Music by Debussy, Ravel, Liszt and Berlioz will be interspersed with popular classics by Granados and Montsalvage, as well as the passionate Milonga from Astor Piazolla's tango opera, Maria de Buenos Aires. Du Toit, will also conjure up some musical solo surprises. Considered one of South Africa’s leading sopranos, Stapelberg was named the 2008 Standard Bank Young Artist for Music, one of the country’s most prestigious art awards. A celebrated soloist, she will make her appearance at Nederburg fresh from a stint at the Sun City Superbowl where she will be among other major local artists headlining at the annual Huisgenoot Skouspel. Based at UCT’s SA College of Music where he is Associate Professor of Piano, Du Toit is acknowledged as one of South Africa’s finest pianists, chamber musicians and music educators. An acclaimed concerto soloist and a sought-after accompanist, he is also a highly respected adjudicator at the various national music competitions. Audiences can look forward to the special chemistry these acclaimed artists create together at their concert at Nederburg Manor House on October 28. The recital starts at 17h00, but guests are welcome to enjoy a complimentary drink on the veranda prior to the performance. Tickets are R170 per person and include delicious light supper snacks served with the estate’s finest wines. Although this recital marks the official end of Nederburg’s chamber music season, patrons can look forward to two special outdoor concerts. The annual Nederburg sunset picnic concert on Saturday, 24 November will feature one of the country’s hottest fusion bands, Coda, as well as performances from the winner of SA’s Got Talent, James Bhemgee and leading cabaret artist Niël Rademan. Gates open at 15h00 and the concert starts at 17h00. Nederburg’s New Year’s Eve picnic concert on December 31 will feature the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Richard Cock and showcasing the sensational jazz cross-over singer Melanie Scholtz and tenor Derrick Ellis, among other artists.
