Four pianists, a violinist and a flutist will on Saturday battle it out for the 2012 Artscape National Youth Music title at the Artscape Theatre. The names of the six musicians that will compete in the finalist gala concert with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) are: Sulayman Human, 19, piano (Oudtshoorn) - F Liszt’s Totentanz Sakhile Humbane, 18, flute (Kwa Mashu, Durban) - C Reinecke’s Flute Concerto in D major, Op. 283; Allegro molto moderato Kensuke Kwajiri, 14, piano (Benmore, Johannesburg) - Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102; first movement Caryn Reed, 17, piano (Bethlehem) - Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16; 2nd & 3rd movements Lieva Starker, 18, violin (Tamboerskloof, Cape Town) - H Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No.5 in A minor, Op. 37; 1st movement: Allegro non troppo Roelof Temmingh, 15, piano (Stellenbosch) - S Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26; Allegro ma non troppo The CPO, conducted by British conductor Tim Murray, will open the concert with Dvorak’s Slovenian Dances and conclude the evening with Strauss’s Blue Danube Waltz.
