Today (Thursday 11 October 2012) is make or break for twelve talented young classical musicians. They are playing in the Artscape National Youth Music Competition’s third round to become one of the six finalists that will take on each other on Saturday 13 October in concert with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. The finalist gala concert starts on Saturday at 19:30 at the Artscape Theatre. The 12 semi-finalists are: Sulayman Human, 19, piano (Oudtshoorn) Sakhile Humbane, 18, flute (Kwa Mashu, Durban) Henly Jun, 14, piano, (Stellenbosch) Kensuke Kwajiri, 14, piano (Benmore, Johannesburg) Jonathan Mayer, 17, violin, (Cresta, Johannesburg) Caryn Reed, 17, piano (Bethlehem) Danielle Rossouw, 14, clarinet (Welgemoed, Cape Town) Lieva Starker, 18, violin (Tamboerskloof, Cape Town) Roelof Temmingh, 15, piano (Stellenbosch) Lize van der Merwe, 15, saxophone (Bellville) Lezanti van Sittert, 16, piano, (Pretoria) Wilmien Janse van Rensburg, 16, violin (Parkview, Johannesburg) The competition has kicked off on Tuesday with 25 contenders between the ages of 14 years and 19 years representing six of the country’s provinces.
