Rhythm Dudes is at the Stable for the holidaysCopy Dog Editorial Enterprises CC
Rhythm Dudes, Stable Theatre’s fun rhythmic adventure aimed at 10 to 14 year-olds, will be at Durban’s Stable Theatre for the school holidays in October.
The production has now entered phase #4 of its development. The script, written by Caroline Smart – who also directs the show – was initially sponsored by Friends of Music through the KwaZulu-Natal Performing Arts Trust.
Ilanga Newspaper then sponsored the next two phases which saw the creation of the production in its English format before being translated into isiZulu and presented for 25 performances to schools from around KZN.
“Rhythm Dudes is designed to teach young people about working together in harmony, which in turn creates team spirit,” says Caroline Smart. “Another strong message is that of respect of family, colleagues, teachers and work places. This is done in a fun interactive way, proving that you can’t do something successfully before laying the proper groundwork – i.e. you can’t make good rhythm unless you work together as a team!
“The response from the schoolchildren has been beyond my wildest dreams,” she continues. “I knew I had created a fun interactive piece but didn’t expect the level on which it has been received. It also seems to appeal to all ages as teachers and parents have eagerly joined in the fun.”
Rhythm Dudes features Tiwe Mbele and Philani Muthwa and runs from September 29 to October 6 daily (except September 30) at 11h00 at Stable Theatre. Booking is at Computicket. More information from Stable Theatre on 031 309 2513, or from Caroline Smart on 082 892 3959.
