Erik Truffaz Quartet joins Standard Bank Jazz JolSharlene Versfeld
UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music in collaboration with Alliance Française de Durban will host the EriK Truffaz Quartet.
They will perform alongside Afrika Mkhize, Quattro Fusion and UKZN Big Band this Saturday, September 1 at the Standard Bank Jazz Jol fundraiser.
Erik Truffaz is a Swiss-born French jazz trumpeter, infusing elements of hip hop, rock ‘n roll and dance music into his compositions (Blue Note and EMI label). Inspired by Miles Davis, and currently one of the most famous French Jazz men in the world, Erik Truffaz brings his eclectic sounds to South Africa as part of the French/South Africa Season.
Quattro Fusion, initiated by Standard Bank to showcase the 2010 Standard Bank Young Artists for Music, is a collaboration between the award recipients, Melanie Scholtz, a renowned jazz singer and Samson Diamond, a talented classical violinist, pianist Melvin Peters and percussionist Godfrey Mgcina, plus UKZN Big Band and others to provide a feast of music in an endeavour to raise funds for the Ronnie Madonsela Scholarship (RMS) which assists disadvantaged jazz students at UKZN.
The Standard Bank Jazz Jol takes place at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN on Saturday, September 1 at 7pm. Entrance is through main UKZN gate, Masizi Kunene Avenue.
