Special birthday dinner and musical tribute to the genius of Freddie Mercury. Le Canard Restaurant hosts the annual tribute to the musical wizardry of Freddie Mercury with a dinner production on Saturday, 8 September. Born in Zanzibar, September 1946, Farrokh Bulsara became one of the greatest legends, musicians and performers of all time. Local stars Ferdi Gernandt and Dihan Slabbert will present the vibrant, complex and colourful music of Freddie Mercury. The normally sedate and peaceful dining rooms of Le Canard will literally rock as Ferdi and Dihan bring patrons to their feet with the music of Freddie Mercury and Queen. Expect glam rock favourites such as “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “We Will Rock You”, and of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. A highlight of the evening will be the performance of “Barcelona”, which will feature a duet with soprano extraordinaire, Ms. Yollandi Nortjie. Ferdi is no stranger to the music and energy of Queen, having performed in and toured with the hit musical “We Will Rock You”. He received critics acclaim as the lead in “Saturday Night Fever” at the Lyric Theatre, and has also appeared in “Cats” and “Chicago” amongst others. Ferdi is currently involved in pre-production for StarLight Express, which races into South Africa next year. Dihan is an accomplished performer and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of South Africa’s pop group “Hi-5”. Apart from his own hit albums, he has worked with music industry's high profile artists, including performer Nataniël and director Richard Loring. The specially designed 4-course menu (with choices to satisfy all tastes) has wonderfully exotic Zanzibari influences. The paired wines for the party are from award-winning Ormonde Private Cellar and Alexanderfontein Estate. Tickets for the dinner production and rock soiree are an all-inclusive R390 (performances, menu, all wines and gratuities).
