Joburg Promusica joins the global celebrations of Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence with a jazz workshop on 22 August. It will be conducted by renowned Jamaican pianist Dr Kathy Brown who has captivated audiences worldwide with her inspired riffs and improvisational skills. Earlier this year, the Jamaican High Commission in South Africa launched a year-long celebratory programme; Dr Kathy Brown’s SA tour of concerts and workshops during the month of August forms one of the highlights. Kathy’s SA tour, organised by Jazz & More Artist management, will mainly take place in Gauteng and the Western Cape; the combination of live Jamaican jazz with a unique music-educational experience makes this tour extra special. Joburg Promusica will host this workshop aimed at music aficionados wanting to learn more about improvisation and the rhythms and styles that have inspired Kathy during the course of her career.
