Five ensembles for youth orchestra festivalArtslink.co.za07/19/2012 08:49:00 
Five youth orchestras will take part in Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Festival at the Linder Auditorium in Parktown on Sunday, 5 August at 14:30. Orchestras from Potchefstroom, Pretoria and Johannesburg will each present their individual programmes before coming together to perform three massed items under the baton of guest conductor, Nic Nicolaides. The Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company is the festival host. Ranging in age from 11 to 25, the 60-strong Johannesburg Youth Orchestra is the flagship of the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company. There are 10 ensembles in all, including the Symphonic Wind Band which recently performed on the Fringe at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. The young musicians come from all over Joburg and its environs, some from leading schools, others from the JYOC development programme in Soweto.
