Tshabalala takes up Dance Forum residencyBehind the Scenes Communications07/13/2012 09:09:00 
The third choreographer to take up Dance Forum’s offer of a Choreographers Residency Programmer is Fana Tshabalala. The programme offers free rehearsal space for a choreographer to work in for a period of up to one month at the Dance Space. In this time the choreographer is able to create a work, plus teach a series of Master Classes and host a Face to Face discussion regarding what he/she is working on. Fana Tshabalala has been creating work since 2006 and showcased his first piece at the 2007 Dance Umbrella Stepping Stones programme; he will work at the Dance Space until July 20, 2012. He will be working on his new piece which will premiere at Dance Umbrella 2013 and he has three days scheduled for Open classes on July 23, 25 & 27 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Dance Space. Attendance at these classes is open to anyone. A showcase of his new work in progress will be held on July 27 at 16:00. This will be followed by a Face to Face interview with Tshabalala. Other artists in residency at the Dance Space this year are Desire Davids and Via Katlehong Dance Group. It has always been a prime objective of Dance Forum to nurture dance practitioners and the Choreographers Residency Programme fulfils this objective excellently. Funding for the project was allocated by The National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund to Dance Forum, the production company of the Dance Umbrella Festival.
