Ntsiki ‘Streetqueen’ Mazwai will host the 4th Mama Said Session at Joburg Promusica's Basement Theatre on Sunday 24 June with Pops Mohamed, Admiral & Jahseed. “Men are what their mothers made them”, so this month the Streetqueen turns her spotlight on exactly that: men. Pops Mohamed, multi-instrumentalist, musician and producer, better known as the Minister of Music, will take on the role of “older sister” while Admiral & Jahseed – who have been DJ’ing together since 1997 - will be the “younger sisters”. All three will give guidance on how to survive the diverse music industry; they will go in conversation with the audience and, above all, inspire and motivate the upcoming and budding artistic generation. Let’s hear it from the boys! The Mama Said Sessions are a mixed masala brewed by Ntsiki Mazwai; they provide a soulful, funky and safe environment where young artists can showcase their talent and leading artists share their knowledge. Another ingredient of the Streetqueen’s special brew is the open mic session where all can strut their stuff backed by the live house band while the DJ is on duty to liven things up. We are calling on fresh, home-grown talent, musicians, poets, writers, visual artists, film-makers, dancers, actors, comedians and anyone who would like to be inspired this Sunday afternoon. Mama Said has already hosted the likes of Dorothy Masuka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Lilian Dube and Nomsa Manaka.
