Two national music competition winners, violinist Avigail Bushakevitz and pianist John Theodore will be gracing the Nederburg stage on June 24.

Bushakevitz, the 2009 Unisa National String Competition winner, will be accompanied by a previous SABC Music Prize winner, Theodore in a performance of virtuoso music for violin and piano that includes violin sonatas by Bartok, Richard Strauss and Schubert.

Last month Bushakevitz graduated with a Masters of Music from the prestigious Juilliard School of Music after obtaining her Bachelor of Music from the same institution in 2010. Aside from winning first prize in the UNISA National Strings Competition 2009, she was awarded special prizes for the best interpretation of a Bach Solo Sonata and the best third round recital in the same competition.

Bushakevitz has performed works by Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, Mozart, Beethoven and Bruch with various orchestras in South Africa, including the Cape Philharmonic, Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic and Johannesburg Philharmonic.

Theodore made his debut with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra (CTSO) in 1978, the first of a number of engagements with the CTSO, and has also appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra of the SABC, the CAPAB and PACOFS Orchestras. Currently serving as a Senior Education Specialist in Music for the Western Cape Education, he remains a sought-after soloist and accompanist.

Their performance in the Nederburg Manor House recital room begins promptly at 17h00. Tickets are R170 and include a welcoming drink and delicious light supper snacks served with fine Nederburg wines. Bookings can be made by e-mailing ialbers@distell.co.za or by calling 021 809 8106 or 021 809 8345.
