Don’t miss this unique concert of the year at The Playhouse in Durban on Sunday 18 December. As a special once-off bonanza for music lovers, The Playhouse Company will present A Tribute to the Jazz Greats in the Opera Theatre on Sunday 18 December 2011 at 3pm. Starring all-time master of the genre, the legendary Hugh Masekela, supported by Durban’s popular jazz personalities, Theo Bhopela and Jerry Kunene and their band, with South Africa’s new generation hot property jazz talent, Siphokazi, adding her own special lustre to the line-up, A Tribute to the Jazz Greats will also feature the entire KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Playhouse Tap Dancers swinging into action and bringing a lively physical element of rhythm and movement to the afternoon’s entertainment. This unique big-time concert will to be remembered for a long time as part of 2011’s Festive Season. Multi-award winning Masekela, South Africa’s trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornet player, composer and singer extraordinaire, is an international legend in his own lifetime. “We are proud to present an artist of this extraordinary calibre on our stage,” says Playhouse Chief Executive and Artistic Director Linda Bukhosini. “Bra Hugh has been at the forefront of the world’s music circuit for more than half a century, and he has played with virtually every other great musician across the globe. “We are pleased, too, to have Theo Bophela and Jerry Kunene on our line-up, each a much-loved presence in our city’s jazz fraternity, each with his own dedicated following of pupils and jazz enthusiasts. Likewise we are very happy to welcome back SAMA-winner Siphokazi, after her highly popular guest appearance here during our Women’s Arts Festival in August.” Don’t miss out on this special music event.
