Jazz on the Lake at the 2011 Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival went off smoothly, with very few complaints.

Once again Joburgers of all backgrounds and from all areas came together on Sunday September 4 for Jazz on the Lake, celebrating the arrival of spring on a cloudless sky, with a stunning line-up of jazz and other artists.

We’re pleased to report that this highlight of the annual Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival (a project of the City of Joburg) went off smoothly, with very few complaints.

In spite of the success of this large-scale, free public event we received a few telephonic complaints from residents who had experienced inconvenience with a minimal number of concertgoers being allowed in where pre-arranged barriers were meant to be in place.

We have been assured by our safety consultants Alliance Safety that this was caused by a deviation from the intersection plan presented to the JMPD on August 22 and accepted on August 23. On the day, the JMPD Operational Head changed the road closure point at Jan Smuts and St. Andrews and moved it to Upper Park Drive at the Zoo, thereby causing some residents an inconvenience.

Even though this deviation from an approved plan was out of our hands, we would like to apologise sincerely to residents who were in any way inconvenienced. We were, however, delighted to note a high number of residents from nearby suburbs joining us for what was a great day out for all and would like to thank them all for their support of this year’s Jazz on the Lake.

Many thanks
