Artscape transforms into youth paradise with August fare. The Artscape Theatre Centre has been transformed into youth paradise with two dedicated events for and by learners, a youth film screening, as well as an exhilarating children’s theatre presentation. Nearly 15 000 youth and their parents are to attend these lively presentations. The programme for next two weeks also offers two concerts, dance and a language conference. Schools Arts Festival – 10 to 26 August 2011 (± 2 hrs) The 12th annual Artscape Schools Arts Festival is packed with excitement and energy. This celebration of arts and culture unites learners, educators, parents and friends from different backgrounds. The festival culminates in an exciting gala on 26 August. On a magic carpet, he and Biff take a ride to the Middle East. Here they encounter dubious characters that not only want to steal the carpet and the magic key, but they nearly become hard labour slaves. They are in serious trouble and need all the help they can get to save Princess Zana from her unscrupulous uncle. Tickets cost R50 at the Theatre. Tchaikovsky’s score transports the viewer and inspires the dancers in their portrayal of this tale of love’s triumph over evil. Accompanied by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and featuring guest artists Prima Ballerina of the English National Ballet, Daria Klimentova, and her partner, Vadim Muntagirov at selected performances. Candidates are young male dancers between the ages of 16 and 20 years, who will benefit from an intensive, two-week course in classical ballet and related disciplines, taught by some of the world’s best teachers. He is supported by pianist Garrith Hendricks and his band Soul Acoustix and acclaimed vocal ensemble, Stronghold A Cappella, the winners of the KaapRapport Choir Competition 2010 category for small singing groups.
