The Trio Fibonacci brings together three Canadian virtuosi: violinist Julie-Anne Derome (Virginia Parker Prize of the Canada Council for the Arts), cellist Gabriel Prynn (King Edward VII Foundation Award) and pianist Wonny Song (winner of the Washington Performing Arts Society competition). For their 2011 tour of South Africa they will apply their formidable talents to a varied programme of works: Schubert’s glorious B flat major trio, the passionate outpouring of Liszt’s transcription of “Widmung” (Devotion) by Schumann, the steely counterpoint of South African composer Michael Blake, plus new music from Quebec.

The Trio Fibonacci’s concert tour to South Africa was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.

Programme:

Franz Liszt: Transcription of “Widmung” (Devotion) by Schumann for solo piano

Ana Sokolovic: “Vez” for solo cello (2005)

Analia Llugdar: “Arco Azul” for solo violin (2010)

Michael Blake: “Carpet of Memory” for piano trio (1991-1998)

Franz Schubert – Piano Trio No.1 in B flat major, D. 898

- Allegro moderato
- Andante un poco mosso
- Scherzo. Allegro
- Rondo. Allegro vivace
