The trendy, intimate Basement at the Joburg ProMusica Theatre is proud to present two new shows, an Afrikaans farce and witty slam poetry.

July 25 at 4pm

Pille en Brille

This hilarious, brand new farce was penned by Henk Pretorius, who also wrote and produced the 'Bakgat' movies.

The action takes place in a retirement village where an amorous young man has disguised himself as a new resident, in order to get closer to a girl he fancies who works there.

The new arrival at the village stirs the interest of two old dears, who go all out to pursue this eligible "old man", but these are problems that he didn't need in his life!

Marga van Rooy (known for her role as Ella in 'Vetkoekpaleis' and Ouma Ella in 'Mollie en Wors') plays the role of Sarie. Together with Albert de Villiers (who played Hardus Vogel in 'Mollie en Wors'), they see to it that the laughs come fast and furious.

Aiding and abetting them is Yvonne Schoeman, who plays the woman whose granddaughter is the attention of the young man's affections.

The show, which is presented in Afrikaans, promises to be top notch entertainment for those seeking crazy ensemble fun.

Tickets: R100 (R80 for pensioners and R50 for students).

Available from Computicket or directly from the theatre.

Thoughts of a Stranger

Donald the Neosapien is an urban poet who believes he was "born on stage". His poetry encompasses wit, social commentary and hilarious word-play that has engaged enthusiastic audiences in vibey venues from Sandton to Newtown.

This 22-year-old East Rander has been writing and performing for seven years, and has won Poetry Slams that have cemented him as a force with which to be reckoned.

This new production is a fusion of theatre and slam poetry, and presents the thoughts of different kinds of people who typically cross our paths on a daily basis. Let Donald take you on this amusing journey through his convoluted musings!

Tickets: R75 (available at the theatre)

The ProMusica theatre complex, situated within the Civic Centre at Florida Park, Roodepoort, offers ample free parking for patrons.
