Acclaimed Frauke visits TUT Arts FacultyTUT - Tshwane University of Technology03/18/2010 15:28:43
Internationally acclaimed Butoh dancer and choreographer Caroline Lundblad, better known as Frauke, is visiting TUT until 26 March. She is the guest of the Department of Drama and Film, Tshwane University of Technology, and will present workshops to senior students specialising in Physical Theatre and Movement in the drama programme. Butoh has its roots in the turbulence of post-war Japan. Artists attempted to create art that drew its strength from their own history - from their own bodies. The founding figures of Butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno, aimed to turn the obvious upside down and prove that dance could be something else than forms that fitted in and conformed to social patterns. For them, the body was not a means to transmit ideas, but rather, it was an "end" to confront and question. Interested parties are invited to attend a lecture/demonstration of what the students have learnt on Thursday, 25 March, at 18:00 in the Rostrum Theatre, Arts Campus, 24 Du Toit Street (corner Du Toit and Struben streets).
