Business and Arts South Africa on the big screen!BASA - Business Arts South Africa03/11/2010 15:40:00 Business and Arts South Africa is currently enjoying a star turn on the silver screen. How's that you ask? Well the organisation's offices feature prominently in the current South African hit comedy, Jozi, starring Carl Beukes, Lionel Newton, Nick Boraine, Moshidi Motshegwa, Jena Dover, and Lindi Matshikiza. "We were approached by the producers last year and asked to assist with the film in some way," relates Business and Arts South Africa CEO, Michelle Constant. Jozi is directed by Craig Freimond (‘Gums and Noses') and is, in many ways, a love letter to the crazy, complex city of Johannesburg, which Business and Arts South Africa also calls its home. The action centres on James (Carl Beukes), a successful comedy writer who has been robbed of his sense of humour by an addiction to cocaine and who journeys to rehab and back to find it again. Some of the key moments in the film - James memorably ditching his producer's computer out of the window and into the street below; the first meeting between James and the beautiful Brenda; James' attempts at a comeback via the sitcom Jozi Jives - all take place in Business and Arts South Africa's offices located in the heart of the city's Newtown district. The film has been critically acclaimed with the Mail & Guardian's Shaun de Waal calling it "a refreshing comedy that explores an off-centre character's relationship with the city everyone loves to hate". Jozi was written and directed by Freimond, produced by Anant Singh and co-produced with Helena Spring and Robbie Thorpe. The film is a Videovision Entertainment release through United International Pictures (South Africa) and a Videovision Entertainment production in association with Distant Horizon, Coral Films, T.O.M. Pictures and The National Film & Video Foundation of South Africa. It is accompanied by a strong soundtrack released by Johannesburg-based Next Music featuring the likes of The Black Hotels who also benefited from the creation of a new music video by the film's producers. "Donating space as a location is an easy way for businesses to get involved in the film industry and help this creative industry really flourish."
